International Research Award to Tehila Sasson

The Universities of Basel, Heidelberg and Sydney are proud to announce that Dr. Tehila Sasson is the recipient of the International Research Award in Global History 2016. She receives the award for her proposed conference on "Global Histories of Natural Resources".

The award is funded jointly by the Department of History and the Cluster of Excellence "Asia and Europe in a Global Context" at Heidelberg University (Roland Wenzlhuemer), the Institute for European Global Studies at the University of Basel (Madeleine Herren-Oesch) and the Laureate Research Program in International History at the University of Sydney (Glenda Sluga). It comes with a purse of up to €10,000 to host an international symposium at one of the participating universities.

Dr. Tehila Sasson is a Past & Present fellow and about to join the History Department at Emory University as an assistant professor. She completed her Ph.D. at University of California Berkeley in Fall 2015 and was a visiting research fellow at the Centre for History and Economics at the University of Cambridge in 2015-2016. Dr. Sasson teaches and writes about the global and international history of Europe with a particular interest in ethics, economy and the environment. She is currently completing her first book, "We Are the World: Humanitarian Ethics, Global Markets and Everyday Life, 1940s-1980s". She is also working on a second book project, provisionally titled "The Right to Nature: Sovereignty, Planetary Politics and the Making of a New International Order", which asks who has the right to own natural resources and examines how this right was formulated, developed and contested over the course of the twentieth century on an international stage. Dr. Sasson will organize an international conference on the topic "Global Histories of Natural Resources".
