SUMMARY:Katekisama Conference: Global “Global Studies” 
DESCRIPTION:How to study issues of global scope and relevance? How to media
 te between the unavoidability of a positionality of any research and the n
 eed to transcend positionality in order to claim globality? This internati
 onal conference is devoted to the question of how “Global Studies” cou
 ld become more truly global\, following discussions in the wake of much cr
 iticism launched against area studies for adopting and perpetuating a paro
 chial container view on the one hand\, and the high level of abstraction t
 hat comes with much mainstream research in the discipline of International
  Relations on the other. Bringing together scholars of different disciplin
 es and across different career stages from universities in São Paulo\, Bo
 nn\, Accra\, Tokyo and Basel\, this conference will first establish differ
 ent perspectives on and approaches to the topic of global “Global Studie
 s” and then delve into different subject-areas to investigate how the di
 scussion of these topoi changes if viewed by way of a conscious attempt t
 owards global “Global Studies”. The subject-areas are discussed on dif
 ferent panels\, namely on (1) Global China\, (2) Uses of History and Globa
 l History\, (3) Migration\, Regional and Global\, and (4) Platform Technol
 ogies\, Law and Global Orders.
