Doctoral Colloquium: Global Research at the PhD Project Lab

On 11 November 2022, doctoral students from the Institute for European Global Studies presented and discussed their ongoing research projects at our PhD Project Lab. The junior scholars benefited from comments and insights provided by an interdisciplinary audience of doctoral and postdoctoral researchers as well as international guest researchers.

Lars Kury analyzed the importance of infrastructuring nature in the age of high imperialism by focusing on the Malacca Straits and the making of environmental transit corridors. Selina Morell showed how the People’s Republic of China defends its interests in the Horn of Africa. Different strategies that the Chinese Communist Party employs to attempt to shape the European Media discourse were assessed by Evelyne Schlauri. Noureddine Wenger’s talk analyzed the appropriation of postmodernism in the Arab World and how ideas are being circulated and transformed in times of crisis.

The PhD Project Lab is one of the platforms of the Graduate Program European Global Studies to bring together early-career and senior researchers and to enhance the interdisciplinary dialogue at the Institute. It specifically aims at transcending disciplinary boundaries and is designed to provide a stimulating environment for interdisciplinary research by adopting innovative forms of teaching.

Doctoral and postdoctoral researchers as well as professors of the research areas Global History of Europe, European Global Knowledge Production and European Law as well as International Guest Researchers and Associated Researchers participated in this event.

The event was organized by Prof. Dr. Madeleine Herren-Oesch and Prof. Dr. Ralph Weber, the leaders of the research areas Global History of Europe and European Global Knowledge Production.
