Protecting cultural property from disaster: Working Lunch with Flavio Häner

On May 3, the Institute for European Global Studies hosted a working lunch with Dr. Flavio Häner. Dr. Häner who has been in charge of the protection of cultural assets during armed conflicts, disasters, and emergencies in the Canton of Basel-Stadt since 2018 and is an associated researcher at the Institute. In his presentation, he offered both historical and anthropological perspectives on the issue of the protection of cultural property from disaster.

Dr. Häner's talk and the discussion that followed addressed a number of issues central to the Institute, including the entanglements between the global and the local on the one hand and the natural and the cultural on the other, the need for interdisciplinary approaches and the benefits of close collaborations between academia and the public sector.
