In autumn 2019, the Institute for European Global Studies is organizing a lecture series titled ”Poland in Europe - Europe in Poland” in cooperation with CULTURESCAPES. The series explores political issues such as the relationship between Poland and the European Union as well as cultural and historical themes. The event is part of CULTURESCAPES 2019's focus on Poland.
The focus of the lecture series is Poland and its position in Europe and globally. It investigates relations between Poland on the one hand and the European Union as well as the ”West” in general on the other. National political debates will be examined, as well.
The politicisation of the rule of law in Poland is the topic of the first lecture on September 25, 2019. It will be held by Przemysław Tacik from the Institute of European Studies at the Jagiellonian University. The following talks delve into Poland's domestic politics and the future of Europe (October 9) and Polish cultural politics (October 16).
The lecture series takes place from September 25 to December 11, 2019. The exact dates can be taken from the schedule. The lectures take place in Auditorium 101 of the ”Alte Universität”, Rheinsprung 9, 4051 Basel.
The event is organised in cooperation with the cultural festival CULTURESCAPES Poland. CULTURESCAPES is a multidisciplinary festival that aims to further intercultural dialogue, cooperation and networking. After focussing on Greece in the previous edition, this year's programme examines Poland. It takes place from October 5 to December 6, 2019.
