The Institute for European Global Studies is a research institution subordinated to the rector’s office at the University of Basel. The interdisciplinary institution combines research and teaching in an area that was defined as one of the university’s strategic foci for the upcoming performance periods. As a research platform, the institute is internationally connected and uses its research focus “Global Europe” to point beyond European borders. In doing so, the relations between Asia, Africa and Europe are of particular consideration. Nevertheless, the institute is also committed to a “glocal” concept: It takes in particular those transboundary processes into account that shape the region and emphasise that Swiss negotiation processes as well as the role of a globally connected Switzerland can be taken as models for a global research on Europe.
