Association of the Institute's Friends and Alumni


The Association of the Institute's Friends and Alumni is an an association (Verein) according to Swiss law that aims to promote the Institute for European Global Studies. It does so by supporting events of the Institute (for instance, the annual graduation ceremony) and by providing students with grants for internships. Furthermore, the association seeks to establish and maintain contacts between former and current students at the Institute.

Currently the board of the Association consists of the following members:

  • Christian Egeler, Präsident (President of the Cantonal Parliament Basel-Stadt)
  • Birgit Heumesser (Department for Industry, Trade and Employment, Canton Basel-Land)
  • Sabine Horvath (Foreign Relations and Location Marketing, Basel-Stadt)
  • Philipp Jordi, Treasurer (Business Manager Glur Reisen)
  • Prof. Dr. Georg Kreis (former Director of the Institute, Historian)
  • Dr. Tanja Soland (Advocate, National Councillor)

Natural as well as legal persons can become members of the Association. The annual fee is 30 CHF for natural persons and 250 CHF for legal persons. Students pay 10 CHF per year. All members of the association regularly receive the newsletter as well as the annual report of the Institute for European Global Studies. In addition, they are invited to the general meetings and to public events, such as conferences and other gatherings.
