Association of the Institute's Friends and Alumni


The Association of the Institute's Friends and Alumni is an an association (Verein) according to Swiss law that aims to promote the Institute for European Global Studies. It does so by supporting events of the Institute (for instance, the annual graduation ceremony) and by providing students with grants for internships. Furthermore, the association seeks to establish and maintain contacts between former and current students at the Institute.

Currently the board of the Association consists of the following members:

  • Christian Egeler, Präsident (Head Traffice Police, Kanton Basel-Landschaft)
  • Philipp Jordi, Treasurer (Advisor for Commercial and Economic Affairs, Embassy of Finland, Berne)
  • Prof. Dr. Georg Kreis (former Director of the Institute, Historian)
  • Birgit Kron (Head of Politics, TCS beider Basel)
  • Dr. Christoph SpenlĂ© (Deputy Section Chief, Section for Human Rights, Federal Department for Foreign Affairs FDFA; Judge at the Appellate Court, Basel-Stadt)
  • Silvio Tondi (Head of the Department for Tri-national Cooperation and Deputy Head, Foreign Relations and Location Marketing, Basel-Stadt)

Natural as well as legal persons can become members of the Association. The annual fee is 30 CHF for natural persons and 250 CHF for legal persons. Students pay 10 CHF per year. All members of the association regularly receive the newsletter as well as the annual report of the Institute for European Global Studies. In addition, they are invited to the general meetings and to public events, such as conferences and other gatherings.
