In the current global environment, neutrality has become a burden for Switzerland, says Ralph Weber in a recent Nikkei Asia-report that explores the Swiss government’s inconsistency on democratic values in its behavior towards Russia and China. The rise of China, as he elaborates, puts Bern in an uncomfortable position and tests its ability to hold its neutral position. The report was published on 2 March 2023.

Ralph Weber is Associate Professor of European Global Studies at the Institute for European Global Studies. He specializes in Political Theory, Chinese Politics, and modern Confucianism. Currently, he is the President of the European Association for Chinese Philosophy and the Chair of the Section on Political Theory in the Swiss Political Science Association.
