Yim Fong Chan at the EACS Conference in Tallinn
Yim Fong Chan presented a paper titled “Defending His Vision of Social Progress: Liang Shuming’s Resilience During the ‘Criticize Lin, Criticize Kong Campaign’ in 1974” at the 25th Biennial Conference of the European Association for Chinese Studies (EACS). The conference took place from 27-30 August 2024 at Tallinn University in Estonia. The presentation used Liang Shuming as a case study to illustrate intellectuals’ predicaments, intellectual struggles, and their reactions to the authorities under the extreme political circumstances in the early 1970s.
Yim Fong Chan is an SNSF fellow in the project The Exterior of Philosophy at the Institute for European Global Studies. In her dissertation, she investigates Confucian philosophy in China between 1949 and 1976. Her general research interests lie in the area of New Confucianism and Chinese intellectual history.
