Christa Tobler awarded the „Europa Prize 2013"
On 4 May, Professor Christa Tobler was awarded the „Europa Prize“ of the Swiss “Neue Europäische Bewegung” (New European Movement) in Bern.
The winning element in the voting was the European law specialists expertise that was particularly emphasised in the statement on nomination: “In Switzerland, the debate on Europe is usually held very emotionally. Unsurprisingly, the facts are therefore often fading into the background. Christa Tobler provides a soothing counter pol in this regard. She is appearing as an expert in questions of European law in a very tranquil, calm, and highly competent manner in newspapers, on the radio, or even in the programme “Arena” of the Swiss National Television. Thereby, she is contributing to keeping the debate on Europe on the ground of hard facts, which is - in light of current challenges to Swiss EU-policy of no doubt – of absolute necessity.”
Christa Tobler is professor of European Law at the Institute for European Global Studies of the University of Basel since 2005, as well as professor of European Law at the University of Leiden (Netherlands) since 2007. She is a regular moot court judge at the European Law Moot Court-competition. In addition to that, she is a member of two networks on anti-discrimination of the European Commission as well as a member of the editorial board of the magazine “Schweizerische Zeitschrift für internationales und europäisches Recht”.
Congratulations to Mrs. Prof. Tobler from the Europainstitute!
