Conference on “Global Chinese Philosophy”
Almost 100 scholars have presented their work at the 2nd Biennial Conference of the European Association for Chinese Philosophy (EACP), which took place in Basel on September 7-9, 2017. The theme of the conference was "Global Chinese Philosophy." Two keynote addresses by Prof. Thomas Fröhlich (Hamburg) and Prof. Loy Hui-chieh (Singapore) were open to the public.
Today, Chinese Philosophy stands as a topic that is making impressive headway on finding its place in the established discipline of philosophy. At the conference “Global Chinese Philosophy” that took place in Basel, scholars from all corners of Europe and the world have presented their latest work. With almost 100 presentations, the event was one of the largest of its kind ever to have taken place in European history.
The two keynotes were open to the public. Prof. Dr. Thomas Fröhlich (University of Hamburg) talked about “Beyond Confucian Delusions and Illusions. Critical Issues in Chinese Philosophy Today” at the Kollegienhaus (Hörsaal 001) on Thursday, 7 September, 6–7pm. Prof. Loy Hui-chieh, PhD, (National University of Singapore) gave an address on “Getting Through to a War-loving Ruler: The Mohists and their Elite Audiences” at the Kollegienhaus (Hörsaal 001) on Friday, 8 September, 6–7pm.
Prof. Dr. Ralph Weber is Assistant Professor for European Global Studies at the Institute for European Global Studies. His main research areas are: Methodological and conceptual aspects of multilingual and transcultural research, comparative philosophy, Chinese political philosophy, Chinese politics, and Confucianism. Prof. Weber is also Vice-President of the European Association for Chinese Philosophy.
The European Association for Chinese Philosophy (EACP) is an academic organization that aims to encourage and advance all academic and scholarly activities related to Chinese philosophy in Europe, create and maintain a platform for a fruitful cooperation and exchange of ideas, open a dialogue between scholars of Asian, especially Chinese intellectual history, and offer a platform for the presentation and discussion of recent topical research.
