Paul Blickle presents his research on ship’s ballast at the global dis:connect podcast series
Paul Blickle, research assistant at the Institute for European Global Studies, wrote a podcast segment based on his dissertation project on ship's ballast in the 19th century. In this episode, he explores the historical significance of ship’s ballast within the global maritime infrastructure. The segment was featured on the global dis:connect podcast, hosted by the Käte Hamburger Research Centre global dis:connect at Ludwig-Maximilian-University Munich and supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Paul Blickle is an Assistant for European and Global History at the Institute for European Global Studies. He completed his B.A. in History and Auxiliary Sciences before obtaining his M.A. in History from the University of Heidelberg. Following his graduation, he began working as a Research Assistant at the Chair of Modern History at Ludwig-Maximilian-University in Munich. His research interests include global and maritime history in the 19th century, technological transitions, and the history of commodities. Currently, he is engaged in a dissertation project on "The Global History of Ballast in the 19th Century".
