Christa Tobler Participated as a Panelist in a Discussion on Swiss-EU Framework Agreement

[Translate to English:] Braunwald Inferno

“Framework Agreement CH-EU: what happens after the termination initiative?” was the topic of a fireside talk, which was organized in the context of this year’s “Braunwald Inferno.” Christa Tobler was among the panelists, discussing the question with EU Parlamentarian Andreas Schwab, Swiss Parlamentarian Eric Nussbaumer, and Norbert Riedel, German Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The event took place on January 18, 2020.

The European Union would like to conclude an agreement with Switzerland with new institutional rules for important sectoral agreements between the parties. A draft text has been available since the end of 2018 but has not yet been signed. In Switzerland, the government now wants to wait for the vote on a popular initiative to abolish the free movement of persons.

The fireside talk on this topic was part of the Braunwald Inferno 2020, a political event organized by the Swiss think tank foraus in the mountain village of Braunwald. Besides political discussions, the event offered opportunities to informally exchange ideas, for instance during a fun ski race.

Christa Tobler is Professor of European Law at the Institute for European Global Studies. Her research interests include the legal relations between Switzerland and the European Union as well as issues of equality before the law and discriminations.
