About the Institute:

The Institute for European Global Studies is an interdisciplinary research institute of the University of Basel. It conducts research on the development of Europe in a global context. Through the interconnected research areas society, law and economy, it points to the challenges and opportunities of Europe’s global entanglements. The research results are published in books, articles, and the academic e-journal “Global Europe – Basel Papers on Europe in a Global Perspective” and are presented at events.

The study program of the Institute for European Global Studies consists of a Master’s Program, a Postgraduate Program, as well as Certificate Courses for further education. The Master’s Program European Global Studies (MA) imparts basic and methodological knowledge and offers specialization modules on topics such as trade and corporations within globalization or European law in global contexts. Students may study the Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) in European and Global Governance part-time.

The Institute for European Global Studies was established in 1992 and is funded by the University of Basel. It is supported by personalities from the fields of economy, politics, and culture. Director of the Institute for European Global Studies is the historian Prof. Madeleine Herren-Oesch.
