Donna Gabaccia on Immigrants in the U.S.
Professor Donna Gabaccia will stay as a Visiting Fellow at the Institute for European Global Studies from April to July. At the Institute she advances a research project on "Imagining Nations of Immigrants".
In her research project, Visiting Fellow Donna R. Gabaccia focuses on “Imagining Nations of Immigrants”. She seeks to explain why the United States features immigration so prominently in its histories and myths about itself and examines the intersection of demography and discourse in the making of modern nations and At the Institute for European Global Studies, she intends to broaden her analysis with case studies of South Africa, Singapore and Israel.
Donna R. Gabaccia is Professor of History and former Director of the Immigraiton History Research Center at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, USA, with a focus on international migration studies, American studies, comparative gender and world history. She holds a doctoral degree in History from University of Michigan, USA, and has received many awards, including the 2013 Theodore Saloutos Prize for the best book in American Immigration History.
Every year, the Institute for European Global Studies invites selected scholars to join as Visiting Fellows and to work on specific projects related to the overall research approach of the institute. Visiting Fellows provide impulses to their field of expertise and share their ideas about research in and on a Global Europe with colleagues.
