Key Visual

The Institute of European Global Studies looks back on an eventful and inspiring spring semester. This issue features highlights from guest lectures and academic events, introduces new partnerships and staff members, and provides updates on recent publications, media appearances, and conference contributions by members of the Institute.

Anthropocene expert Professor Julia Adeney Thomas visited Basel to take part in the presentation and discussion of Corey Ross’s latest book, "Liquid Empire: Water and Power in the Colonial World". Visiting Professor Arindam Chakrabarti and Ralph Weber shared insights into their upcoming book project, and this year’s Institute barbecue brought together staff, students, and alumni to celebrate a special milestone: the 10-year anniversary of the MA program in European Global Studies.

The academic community and international network of the Institute continue to grow. The Katekisama Program has been further expanded through a new partnership with the Institute for Advanced Studies on Asia (IASA) at the University of Tokyo. The Institute is also pleased to welcome Moritz von Brescius as SNSF Professor for Global History, Javier Francisco as postdoctoral researcher in Global History, and two new associated researchers. Their diverse expertise and perspectives further enrich the Institute’s research environment.

The newsletter is published by the Institute for European Global Studies of the University of Basel. Four issues are published annually and sent by e-mail. Feel free to subscribe to the newsletter via the link below. We hope you enjoy reading it!
