As the year draws to a close, the Institute for European Global Studies looks back on a series of events that brought together students, alumni, and scholars in a spirit of critical inquiry, exchange, and reflection on global challenges. We thank all participants, speakers, students, alumni, and partners for making these exchanges possible and look forward to continuing the conversation in the year ahead.
Highlights included the Graduation Ceremony on 31 October 2025, celebrating this year’s MA graduates, as well as a series of academic events that brought students, alumni, and guests into dialogue from a Salon Discussion on the emergence of the “global zoo” around 1900 to the collaborative exchange of the PhD Project Lab.
In a public lecture, Dr. Paul R. Seger, former Swiss Permanent Representative to the United Nations, offered a critical assessment of the UN at 80 years, addressing the challenges facing liberal multilateralism and emphasising the importance of human security, climate risks, and the everyday practice of diplomacy.
