New ERC-Project by Glenda Sluga: Opening Lecture
”Capital, Economic Thought, and Histories of Economic Life” is the topic of a lecture by Prof. Emma Rothschild (Harvard University) on March 9. The event is held on the occasion of the launch of the new ERC-funded project ”Twentieth-Century International Economic Thinking, and the Complex History of Globalisation” (ECOINT) at the European University Institute in Florence. The project is headed by Prof. Glenda Sluga, member of the Advisory Board of the Institute for European Global Studies.

Emma Rothschild is the Jeremy and Jane Knowles Professor of History at Harvard University, where she directs the Joint Center for History and Economics, also based at the University of Cambridge and Sciences Po. Her most recent book, ”An Infinite History: The Story of a Family in France over Three Centuries” (Princeton, 2021), tells the story of a single extended family across five generations and across the geographies of France, Algeria, Syria, Mexico, and Tahiti. Her other recent books include ”The Inner Life of Empires: An Eighteenth-Century History” and ”Economic Sentiments: Adam Smith, Condorcet and the Enlightenment”.
Glenda Sluga is Professor of International History and Capitalism at the European University Institute in Florence (from 2020 to 2024) and Professor of International History at the University of Sydney. In 2020, she received a European Research Council Advanced Grant, overseeing a five-year research program on ”Twentieth Century International Economic Thinking and the Complex History of Globalization” (ECOINT).
