Talk by Lee Ting-mien on Kang Youwei

Lee Ting-mien

On December 13, Lee Ting-mien gave a talk at the Institute for European Global Studies in answer to the question “Why is Kang Youwei Relevant to the Study of Chinese Philosophy?” The talk was offered in the framework of the SNSF-funded research project on “The Exterior of Philosophy: On the Practice of New Confucianism.”

Lee Ting-mien argued against the tendency of philosophers to overlook Kang Youwei’s arguments for a revaluation of classical Confucianism (and Mohism), despite the important resurgence of Kang Youwei studies in Philosophy departments of Mainland China.

Lee Ting-mien is Assistant Professor in the Philosophy and Religious Studies Programme of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the University of Macau.
