Workshop on Historical Mapping with WorldMap

“Exploring WorldMap” is the title of a workshop with Professor Suzanne Preston Blier (Harvard). The event aimed to demonstrate historical mapping on the web through a hands-on approach. It took place on Friday, March 13th, 2015, at the Department of History.

This live demonstration of WorldMap offered an overview of core functionality and potentials of the GIS-based online mapping system that was developed at Harvard University and is now available for scholars around the globe. Built in a manner that in some ways resembles Wikipedia users are able to draw on the mapping data that other users chose to share, a data base that includes a wide array of data.

Suzanne Preston Blier is Allen Whitehill Clowes Professor of Fine Arts and of African and African American Studies at Harvard University.

The workshop took place on Friday, March 13th, 2015, from 9.15am to 11am at Seminarraum 1 of the Department of History. It was organized by the Department of History.
