Salon Discussion with Prof. Atsushi Shibasaki: "Katekisama rises again"

Salon debate and book launch "Katekisama rises again" with Professor Atsushi Shibasaki, Komazawa University, Tokyo.

This book is the result of collaborative research Prof. Shibasaki conducted over the past few years with Japanese researchers on the mystery of Katekisama. It synthesizes findings from researchers specializing in William Adams, scholars at the local temple housing Katekisama, and the National Museum's pioneering X-ray analysis and tree species identification. It also includes an Edo-period painting depicting Katekisama, which he discovered through literature research and whose location was identified by the book's editor.

Atsushi Shibasaki is a professor at the  Faculty of Global Media Studies and Dean of the Graduate School of Global Media at Komazawa University in Tokyo. From April 2017 to September 2018, he was a Visiting Fellow at the Institute for European Global Studies. In his research, he is particularly interested in the historical development of international cultural relations and politics in modern Japan, philosophical debates on the creation of global and international consciousness in modern Japan, and the theoretical analysis of the historical development of international relations theory.
