Colloquium Series “Global Aging” with Brigit Obrist und Piet van Eeuwijk

"Global Aging in Indonesia and Tanzania"

Prof. Brigit Obrist is Professor of Anthropology at the Institute of Social Anthropology at the University of Basel. She is a leading expert in medical anthropology. Since 1998, she also holds a position as senior scientist at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (associated with the University of Basel) and leads an interdisciplinary Medical Anthropology Research Group (MARG) with post-doc and PhD projects in Germany, Switzerland, East and West Africa in the fields of malaria, urban health, sexual and reproductive health, ageing and health, as well as media and health.

Dr. Piet van Eeuwijk is a social anthropologist and historian and holds a postgraduate degree in developing countries/development policy studies. His current scientific specialization is in the field of medical anthropology, anthropology of ageing, urban anthropology, applied anthropology and political ecology. He is engaged as senior lecturer and senior researcher at the Institute of Social Anthropology at the University of Basel, the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute and several other institutions.

During the spring semester 2014, the Institute for European Global Studies organizes a colloquium series on the topic of “Global Aging”. During those interdisciplinary research colloquia, scholars of the Institute and other institutions present their research to the scientific community.
