Public Lecture by Prof. John Van Reenen (LSE) on the Future of Europe

On 7 December 2026 at 18:15, Prof. John Van Reenen (London School of Economics) will give a public lecture on “Prosperity and the Future of Europe” in the Aula of the Kollegienhaus at the University of Basel. The event is part of the Lecture Series on Innovation in the Global Economy organised by Prof. Rolf Weder. Prof. Alois Stutzer (University of Basel) will join the discussion as a panelist.

Europe faces an economic and national security crisis. Two decades of low growth and the rise of populism are shaking the foundations. How should citizens, policy and business leaders respond? What will it take to restore stronger growth, innovation, and competitiveness across Europe?

In his public lecture, Prof. John Van Reenen will lay out the challenges. Drawing on his extensive research as well as his experience in economic policy making, he will argue for a strategy based on a growth and innovation agenda.
