Katekisama Seminar "Global China"

Under the theme "Global China", a newly co-designed seminar in the Katekisama Program has gathered MA students from the Universities of Ghana, Basel, and Bonn. The students delved into the political, cultural, and technological aspects of China's expanding global presence. The hybrid course took place in both Basel and Bonn on December 15 and 16, 2023. It was held by Jun.-Prof. Dr. Maximilian Mayer (Bonn) and Prof. Dr. Ralph Weber (Basel).

During this course, the students explored how China's global reach is reshaping diplomatic, geopolitical, and geoeconomic relations around the world. The seminar involved researchers from Germany, Ghana, and China, who examined various actors such as the Chinese Communist Party and Chinese companies. Additionally, they analyzed processes of knowledge production and the transnational operations of the party state.

The Katekisama program is a global approach to academic collaboration offering young scholars and senior researchers an original and vibrant platform of interdisciplinary, cooperative education and research. Cooperation partners are the Institute for European Global Studies of the University of Basel, the Faculty of Arts of the University of Bonn and the University of Ghana.
