Ralph Weber at Summer School in Dakar
Ralph Weber contributed to the 6th CODESRIA/CASB Summer School in African Studies and Area Studies in Africa, held from August 26-30, 2024, in Dakar, Senegal. His lecture, titled 'Untangling Global Knowledge for Science to Policy Translation – the Role of Philosophy and Political Science,' focused on bridging global knowledge for effective policymaking. The Summer School was funded by the Oumou Dilly Foundation (Switzerland) and organized by the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA).
The thematic focus of the Summer School was on 'Making Knowledge Policy-Relevant: The SSH’s Role in Global Sustainable Development.' The program offers PhD students and early-career scholars a platform to explore theoretical, conceptual, and methodological issues relevant to African Studies, while analyzing the policy relevance of their research. For Ralph Weber, it was the 6th time participating in his forum and presenting his research to PhD students and early career scholars.
The event constituted the sixth edition of the Summer School in African Studies and Area Studies in Africa. It was organized by the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA) and the Centre for African Studies Basel (CASB). The overall objective of the Summer Schools on African Studies and Area Studies in Africa is to stimulate and consolidate interdisciplinary approaches to research on Africa, but also on other regions of the world undertaken from within the African continent.
Ralph Weber is Professor for European Global Studies at the Institute for European Global Studies. He specialises on Political Theory, Chinese Politics and modern Confucianism. Currently, he is the President of the European Association for Chinese Philosophy and the Chair of the Section on Political Theory in the Swiss Political Science Association.
